FREEDOM FROM FEAR CELEBRATES ITS SILVER JUBILEE When Mary Guardino founded Freedom From Fear in 1984, she had no idea just how much good the organization would accomplish or how many lives it would improve. From its humble beginnings, Freedom From Fear is now recognized as a national champion for those suffering from mental illness and the family and friends who love them. Twenty-five years later, Freedom From Fear is still going strong and committed to its mission to impact, in a positive way, the lives of all those affected by anxiety, depressive and related disorders through advocacy, education, research and community support. On June 18, 2009 the organization hosted its Silver Jubilee Commemorative Dinner at LiGreci’s Staaten in Staten Island, New York. There were over 230 guests in attendance to celebrate the many accomplishments of Freedom From Fear over the past 25 years. At the dinner, four people were honored with Freedom From Fear’s Caring Connection Awards for their work in the mental health community. The honorees were William Henri, MPA, MS, Executive Director of South Beach Psychiatric Center, Constance Salhany, Ph.D., member of Freedom From Fear’s Board of Directors, and Linda and Jack Wilson, National Alliance on Mental Illness Staten Island. In addition to the honorees receiving awards for their important work, the Board of Directors of Freedom From Fear honored Mary Guardino for her accomplishments by presenting her with a Silver Cup for her years of service.
