National College Mental Health Program
Late adolescence and early adulthood are periods of increased risk for the development of serious emotional and personal problems. For example, panic disorder will strike half of its victims before the age of 24. This illness or any other mental illness during the college years may have a profound effect on a college student’s future.
Research has determined that early intervention and treatment for mental illness greatly increases an individual’s success in illness remission. Also, college students who are treated for emotional problems, increase the chance of completing their college requirements. Unfortunately, emotional problems and college drop out rates go hand in hand.
Freedom From Fear, a national mental illness advocacy organization founded in 1984 wishes to support college health centers and counseling centers, in their public education efforts. Your college is invited to join our National College Mental Health Program. We will mail you Freedom From Fear’s famous Survival Kit CD-Rom, which contains fact sheets, educational materials about mental health topics, screening questionnaires, guidelines for organizing programs, public relations information and many other valuable tools to help students. Also, we will send you information about many reasonably priced videos and educational materials we offer.
Early intervention for college students suffering with anxiety and depression is extremely important so that students suffering with these illnesses can receive the help they need to successfully meet the challenges of their college careers.
